“Breed ‘em or Spay
‘em”
We have all know how important
it is to spay and neuter our pets, but it is especially important
to spay the females. There are many serious health conditions
that can be averted by having this procedure done. Even if
your female never see’s a male dog, hormonally they go through a
pregnancy each time they go into heat. Over time this leads to more
and more problems. So, unless you are a breeder with a ready
market for the puppies, get her spayed !
Cats never really go out of heat
until they are mated (guaranteed pregnancy). If they never are
mated their health will deteriorate over a years time. Not
spaying a cat means poor health or you are seriously in the “cat
business”.
Neutering dogs and cats is also
important. While the direct health implications are not as dire as
the females, there is a lot of indirect benefits in addition to
unwanted population control.
Details;
Patients should arrive at the
clinic between 7:30 and 8:30 the morning of the surgery. They
will be ready for discharge between 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm the same
day. If this is not convenient, patients can be admitted the
afternoon before surgery at no additional cost. All
spay/neuter patients should have all food taken up by midnight
before the day of surgery.
Patients will be “groggy” the
evening after surgery, potential nausea. We expect them to
sleep and they probably not eat. They should be eating the
next day, and back to normal in 2 to 3 days. There usually is
no suture removal necessary, the sutures are buried under the skin
and dissolve on their own.
Pain
Management;
Pain relievers and/or narcotics
are given to all patients at the time of surgery. No other
medicines are usually needed. However, we do offer some
additional pain management options for extra comfort for those very
special “babies”.
Other
Concerns:
We recommend proper vaccinations
as well as other preventative health care and we love to help
clients with their pets in this area. You will be asked about
vaccination status and other concerns for documentation purposes,
but no prior vaccines or other preventative health care is
required for a spay/neuter surgery at this
clinic.
Scheduling;
We perform surgeries Monday thru
Friday. Call the office, (910-654-6952) to schedule your
